What is zero waste? 

Zero Waste is the concept of waste prevention through principles that encourage the redesign of resource life cycles so that all materials are reused rather than sent to landfills, incinerators, or polluting our oceans.

RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING
INITIATIVE

 

In the Fall of 2025, ZWP is launching a grassroots initiative in partnership with the City of Providence's Department of Sustainability and Department of Public Works (DPW) to:

  • Educate our neighbors about recycling guidelines in Providence, 

  • Provide detailed and personalized feedback to our neighbors about recycling contaminants, 

  • Support the City's rollout of new residential curbside carts (both for trash and recycling)

  • Increase the percentage of recyclable material that is diverted from our landfill and successfully recycled

Food waste makes up over 30% of what goes into our landfills. We are working with the City of Providence to make composting accessible to all Providence residents. Scan the QR code to fill out our survey.
