Zero Waste Providence's Compost Working Group aims to make composting accessible to all Providence residents. We are advocates of hyper-local composting in cities, and believe in keeping the rich resource of compost accessible to the neighborhoods where the food scraps are created. Members of our group are currently working on several neighborhood pilot projects.

Earth Appliance Organics runs a free drop-off program in Smith Hill.

Harvest Cycle Compost runs a citywide compost pickup service and a depot in Federal Hill, with a new site in the West End coming soon.

Other residential compost pickup programs operating in and around Providence are statewide hauler Rhodeside Revival and Boston-based Bootstrap Compost and City Compost.

The Compost Plant offers institutional and larger restaurant pickup. For more information about restaurant composting, check out our 100 by 2020 page.

We are happy to offer advice and resources to new composters and those entering the application process for small and medium scale compost facilities in Rhode Island.

Due to COVID-19 our regular meetings have moved online. We meet every other Wednesday at 6pm. We welcome newcomers, whether you are an industry composter or a resident interested in helping to get Providence composting!
